Angolan authorities have said they will fight for the release of their 20 nationals who are facing the death penalty in Zambia.
Angolan Justice and Human Rights minister Rui Mangueira is to visit Zambia next week for talks with local authorities on the situation.
About 50 Angolans are languishing in various Zambian jails with 20 facing death penalties mainly for murder convictions.
Angola was among the first African countries to abolish death penalty in 1991 following a constitutional review.
"Since our President is so concerned about this issue, I will travel to Zambia next week to discuss it with the local authorities in Lusaka," Mr Mangueira told the Portuguese news agency Lusa Tuesday.
Mr Rui is also expected to meet his Zambian counterpart and with President Michael Sata.
